“You are 90% healed. We do not want to see you until you get your braces off.” That was what I came to during my appointment on Monday. Then it got even better when they said, “You can eat anything you want now. Just probably not beef jerky because you have to really bite to break pieces of it off.” I’m so happy that my recovery process is just about over. I’m still swollen in some place, but other than that I really am able to eat normal food now.
Afterward the appointment, my parents and I got the Dental clinic a couple boxes of Kirspy Kremes and a thank you card because they really did change my life through their hard work and dedication. I’m glad I was able to survive for these past few months. The next time I get my braces off from what the orthodontists told me was a year from now probably around next year in November December.
I’ve been at home for the holiday season and it has been wonderful. Just being able to see my sisters and hang out with them was what I needed this break. Now I go back to school next week and a new year. 2012, I hope you are good to me.
I had another appointment on Monday and this time they said if I am able to schedule an appoint sometime between the next two weeks with my Ortho, then schedule an appt. with them the same day, I’ll be able to remove my splint! I was finally able to drive myself during that Monday appointment because my parents had work. It felt good getting out of the house for once because I’ve just been inside for the most part while I recovered. I was luckily able to obtain one this coming Monday, Dec. 12th. So come that day, I’ll have to drive an hour to the hospital, drive back, wait a few hours then drive a short 10 minutes to my Ortho. And when all is said and done, I will have my splint removed and a new top wire on my braces!
The doctors had to unfortunately cut the top wire in half in order to fit the splint in during surgery. But if all goes well, I will be able to start eating soft foods with my splint off, like soup, mashed potatoes, and all that good stuff! Just in time too, because I want to know when I’ll be able to eat some Pringles. I’ve been starting to crave hard foods this past week. Being on a liquid diet was difficult, but I am almost done with it! =)
I will most likely post pics during next week.
Four weeks since my surgery and I have been doing well. I had another doctor’s appointment on Monday which went fairly well. For one thing, I am finally able to drink through a straw now! Baby steps, haha! But seriously, it really “sucked” eating my food through a syringe because sometimes the rubber stopper would expand due to heat and not fit the tube any more. With a straw, I will be able to eat more food! But I am still on a liquid diet for another three weeks. The surgeon also said I was able to sleep lying down finally! Thank God for that, because I am definitely able to sleep better nowadays. A third joyful event is that I am able to wear my bands on my braces at night times only! Throughout the day before when I did have bands on, sometimes they would break during the day which was very annoying, but now I don’t have to deal with it because I only wear them going to bed.
I’m so happy right now because of those three “upgrades” if you will. They will make my healing process much easier now. Also, the surgeon said if the healing looks good at next week’s appointment, I will not have to see them for two more weeks, and at the end of those two weeks, I will finally have this splint taken off of my top teeth!! This is great news because then I will be able to talk normally without the obstruction of the splint. I’ll have to coordinate with my orthodontist to see if they can have an appointment the same time, so they will be able to repair my braces the same day that my splint gets taken off. Things are looking good so far!

As a reminder, you can also enter the Facebook Raffle as well, which has some different games, but still includes a copy of the coveted Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Golden Controller bundle! All you have to do is “like” the fanpage (not the post) and share the post!

Man! I can’t believe it’s been three weeks already since surgery date. The days have been going by faster and I’ve just been doing the same daily routine of trying to eat every two hours. Ever since my surgery and all through out until this past Sunday, my dad has been putting the bands on my braces since I was unable to do them. But for the past three nights, I’ve been able to put them on by myself. I did try it before like a week after surgery, but my hands were still too shaky, due to the pain medicine and the fact that I just got out of surgery.
But now my hands are steady and I am able to do it on my own. So what have I been up to these past few weeks? I’ve just been at home for the most part aside from the weekly check ups with the surgeons, watching TV and going on the Internet now that I have a little more strength. I also re-watched the last season of The Last Airbender for kicks and giggles.
I’ve been feeling better as the days go by, however I am pretty sure I am not 100% yet. I tend to run out of energy really fast and I get sleepy sometimes, but I don’t know why I feel that way on certain days. Specifically the past three days. Today however, I’ve been feeling a little better and survived the day without taking a nap.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I heard I will be getting served a liquid blend of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy! I don’t know about you all, but that sounds very good to me! And to finish that off, a pumpkin pie shake. I hope everyone has a good weekend off, spending time with family and friends! Happy Thanksgiving!!! I’ll check up again in a few days. =)
